Internal combustion engines are machines which are responsible for converting chemical energy into mechanical energy in the form of motion. The opening and closing of the intake valve as well as the exhaust valve is regulated by the cam shaft. Valves are extremely crucial in lending your engine strength and racing potential. Today, valves made up of stainless steel and titanium having a black nitride coating is much in use. However titanium is viewed as ultimate valve alloy because of its lightness. It is about 40% lighter than stainless steel. The advantage of lighter valves over traditional valves is they improve the cam performance for better off the line engine output and high end torque. It's now a well established fact that in auto racing less mass means greater speed. As a result engineers have apparently find ways to reduce mass in race car body and components. Targeting engine valves for this not only reduce the weight of the engine but also open up the way to increase engine performance practically. The team has spent several years to develop fiber-reinforced one piece valves to replace materials currently in use. Another kind of valve which is the gift of modern research is the high flow valve. High flow valves are designed to allow large amount of gaseous exchange between the cylinder of a combustion engine and the external environment. High flow valves regulate the entry and exit of high volume of air in short period of time automatically. The motor industry is in fact manipulating every motor engine part to ensure the customers high speed and engine endurance. Piston manufacturing has also changed considerably since the birth of internal combustion engine. Piston manufacturers are using aluminum in the production of racing pistons. Aluminum is used in pistons because this metal is light weight, rust proof and easy to cut.
